Five musicians from four nations create a sound world full of colors and facets. The Aiolos Reed Quintet combines virtuosity with the joy of experimentation and unfolds a completely new sound aesthetic with its unique instrumentation. Sometimes powerful and orchestral, sometimes intimate and delicate – experience chamber music that surprises, moves and inspires.

CONCERT PROGRAMS

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS​

This program takes the audience on a sonic journey between two worlds: France and America. The focus is on impressionistic plays of color, baroque-inspired melodies and the rousing swing of jazz. Gentle melancholy meets pulsating rhythms, refined harmonies meet dancing lightness.

In the first half, shimmering soundscapes full of poetry and elegance unfold from the pens of César Franck and Maurice Ravel, before the energy and esprit of the New World take over after the interval in works by Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Broadway glamor, syncopated grooves and the unmistakable sound of America provide a dynamic contrast.

An evening full of musical surprises – sometimes dreamy, sometimes virtuosic, always with a twinkle in the eye.

QUINTESSENCE - BIG MUSIC FOR SMALL ENSEMBLE

This program combines musical masterpieces from three centuries in new, exciting timbres. Antonio Vivaldi’s legendary trio sonata “La Follia” unleashes itself in virtuoso variations full of drama, while Richard Strauss‘ Dance of the Seven Veils fills the stage with dazzling sensuality. Finally, George Gershwin’s An American in Paris makes you feel the pulse of a vibrant metropolis – full of jazz, elegance and energy.

After the interval, the Aiolos Reed Quintet transforms Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition into a colorful listening experience. From the monumental Great Gate of Kiev to the playful Ballet of the Chicks – in the ensemble’s own arrangement, the cycle unfolds in a new, surprising variety of sounds.

BETWEEN DREAM AND DANCE

With delicate timbres and dazzling harmonies, the Aiolos Reed Quintet guides you into a world between dream and dance. Erik Satie’s enraptured Gymnopédies and mysterious Gnossiennes unfold their floating magic in a new instrumentation. Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and the symphonic masterpiece Daphnis et Chloé can be heard in a fascinatingly transparent version for Reed Quintet. Claude Debussy’s impressionistic sound painting Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune rounds off the program – a shimmering interplay of light and shadow that makes the breath of French music palpable.

Immerse yourself in these soundscapes – seductive, floating, full of sophistication.

CHRISMUKKAH

This program brings the festive traditions of Christmas and Hanukkah into a musical dialogue and celebrates the similarities between the two great world religions. Christmas carols and dances from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker meet the lively musical culture of the Jewish Festival of Lights in A Hannukah Celebration. Fairytale melodies from Hansel and Gretel and the festive lightness of Leroy Anderson’s music combine to create a concert full of contemplation, joy and cultural connection. A musical celebration for everyone!
