ABOUT US

Named after Aiolos, the god of the winds in Greek mythology, the Aiolos Reed Quintet was founded in 2024 in the Rhine-Main region. The ensemble brings together five outstanding musicians from five countries: Naama Caspo Goldstein (Israel), Martina Kropf (Austria), Luis Enrique Martínez García (Spain), Ivan Petrov (Bulgaria), and Regina Reiter (Germany).

Its unusual instrumentation – oboe, clarinet, bassoon, bass clarinet, and saxophone – may at first glance bring to mind the classical woodwind quintet. Yet the unifying element of the reed gives rise to unique timbres and combinations that unfold a fascinating character all their own.

The quintet’s repertoire ranges from original contemporary compositions to arrangements of classical orchestral and piano works, as well as popular music. In doing so, the Aiolos Reed Quintet pursues a clear vision: it aims to bring the rich orchestral sound into the world of chamber music, inspire new works for this colorful yet still rare ensemble, and inspire a broad audience with its sonic possibilities – whether in renowned concert halls or in unexpected, extraordinary venues.
