ABOUT US

Named after Aiolos, the god of the winds from Greek mythology, the Aiolos Reed Quintet was founded in the Rhine-Main region in 2024. The ensemble brings together five outstanding musicians from four nations: David Avendaño (Colombia), Julia Büttner (Germany), Naama Caspo Goldstein (Israel), Ivan Petrov (Bulgaria) and Regina Reiter (Germany).

Its unusual instrumentation – oboe, clarinet, bassoon, bass clarinet and saxophone – may at first glance be reminiscent of the classical woodwind quintet. However, the connecting element of the reed creates unique timbres and mixtures that develop a fascinating character all of their own.

The quintet’s repertoire ranges from contemporary original compositions and arrangements of classical orchestral and piano works to popular music. The Aiolos Reed Quintet pursues a clear vision: to bring the richness of orchestral sound into the world of chamber music, to inspire new works for this colorful but still rare instrumentation and to inspire a wide audience with its sonic possibilities – whether in renowned concert halls or in unexpected, unusual venues.
