DAVID AVENDAÑO - BASSOON

David Avendaño received his musical education at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá and continued his bassoon studies at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory in Caracas, Venezuela. He then studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, where he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in orchestral music with bassoon as his main subject under the guidance of Prof. Gustavo Núñez. In addition, he studied musicology, history and philosophy at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

He gained his orchestral experience as a bassoonist and contrabassoonist in numerous renowned orchestras, including the Philharmonia Frankfurt, the Berlin Camerata, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg, the Frankfurt Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Hessen and the Mannheim National Theater Orchestra.

As a sought-after musician, his concert activities with renowned ensembles and conductors have taken him on tours through Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Russia and Portugal. He has also been a guest at major festivals and concert series, including Musiklandschaft Westfalen and the Penderecki Orchestra Academy.

He has performed as a soloist with various orchestras, including the orchestra of the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, with whom he performed Carl Maria von Weber’s Bassoon Concerto Op. 75 under the direction of Julio Vico.

His artistic training was complemented by master classes with internationally renowned bassoonists such as Stefano Canuti, Georg Sakakeeny, Eduardo Calzada, Henning Trog, David Petersen, Ole Kristian Dahl, Higinio Arrue, Simon van Holen and Felicia Dietrich.

David Avendaño has been awarded numerous scholarships for his outstanding musical achievements, including grants from the German Music Council, the Hessian Cultural Foundation and the charitable foundation „Wohltätigkeits-Anstalt zur Einigkeit Frankfurt am Main“. He has also received the Deutschlandstipendium and the NRW-Stipendium.
